Wedding Day Jewellery
Jewellery is an important part of a wedding…after all, a piece of jewellery is usually how the whole affair begins! Choosing the right style, design and amount of jewellery to wear on your wedding day has an impact on your overall look and can either overpower and detract from or compliment and accentuate your gown. Obviously, it’s a good idea to aim for the latter. Choosing the perfect wedding ring for yourself and your groom, deciding which pieces of jewellery you will wear and what style those pieces will reflect is all part of the fun and excitement of planning for your special day, and to help you decide, we’ve put together a guide to getting it right.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend
We received these beauties in our inbox earlier in the week – what a pity it was an email and not the real thing! The stunning earrings from Holloway Diamonds are comprised of an incredible 1,698 diamonds – that’s 10 carats in total! Swoon….
Do you have a dream jewellery item for your wedding?
Floral jewels
My goodness what a busy week we’ve had! It’s been non-stop in the office as we get set to launch our stunning Summer issue, and a few other super special projects – more on that soon!
But yesterday, in the middle of ticking things off my lengthy “to-do” list, I was momentarily distracted by an email containing images of the most exquisite jewellery – you might say I was blinded by bling!
This incredible jewellery is from Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen, Scandinavia’s leading fine jewellery house. Designer Ole Lynggaard studied and worked all over the work before buying a small workshop in Denmark in 1963. In 2008, the jewellery house was appointed as Purveyor to the Royal Danish Court, creating breathtaking pieces for the Royal Family, including Crown Princess Mary.
All these ornate floral designs are making me think of our Floral Fantasy spread from Real Weddings Style 2009… If you’re having a similarly-themed event, perhaps you could incorporate some of these stunning jewels – they’re now available in Australia! To find out more, visit olelynggaard.com
Be an eco-fashionista!
Following on from yesterday’s chat with Green Bride Guide author Kate L. Harrison, we wanted to share this fabulous new website we found!
ecofashionista.com.au is a fabulous site for all those gals who are as fashion-conscious as they are environmentally-conscious! All designers featured on the site use organic, sustainable or vintage fabrics, eco-friendly production, make small quantities to order or by construct garments by hand, and ensure fair work conditions for staff. Each garment on the site has a lettered code that tells you which sustainable practices is was made with – O + H means “Organic” and “Handmade” – and you can buy all items on the site through the online store. What a great idea!
We found some gorgeous designs that would be just perfect for an eco-friendly wedding:

This organic, handmade “Scallop” dress from Loup Charmant (French for “the charming wolf”) in New York, would be ideal for a sweet vintage garden-party wedding.

The organic, natural and fairly made “Catherine” dress in Sapphire from Sublet (also from New York), would make a beautiful bridesmaid dress.

The Fifi Bijoux “Adore” pendant, made from ethically mined and traded 9ct gold, would look stunning on either the bride or her bridesmaids.

A girl’s best friend!

Kirsten Mackelden (R) with Lucy Owens from The Grand Hyatt
What a fantastic night we had at the Bulgari bridal collection showcase last night! Our founding editor Kirsten MacKelden was lucky enough to have the Bulgari team personally select a piece for her to wear on the night – the stunning ‘Astrale’ necklace, below!

The evening began with champagne at the Bulgari store in Collins Street, where newly engaged women had the opportunity to try on spectacular diamond pieces from the Bulgari Bridal Collection such as the incredible marquise cut diamond ring below.
Celebrations then moved to the Grand Hyatt Melbourne‘s newest event space, The Residence, when guests were treated to fine food served right before their eyes by accomplished chefs.
There was also showcase of beautiful wedding gowns from designers including Karen Willis Holmes. As they departed, guests received a showbag full of treats including Bulgari’s ‘Jasmine Noir’ perfume, and a copy of the Magazine of the Year – Real Weddings! What a night! One thing we know for sure – diamonds truly are a girl’s best friend!
