Love of Blossoms
At this time of year, Japan’s parks are filled with thousands of people from all over the world who come to experience the magical cherry blossom displays. And this year our marketing co-ordintaor, Meg, is lucky enough to be there!
Not only are there beautiful cherry blossoms to see, but many festivals are also held between March and May. The gorgeous flowers are the main attraction of the festivals, but many traditional Japanese customs are held, such as tea ceremonies held under cherry trees and hanami (a cherry blossom viewing party) where people enjoy eating meals together under cherry trees, which has been a Japanese custom since the 7th century.
Known locally as Sakura, cherry blossoms are recognized as Japan’s unofficial national flower, and it is said that there are over four hundred varieties of cherry trees in Japan.
If you’re thinking of traveling to Japan at all, this time of year is a must, with the top cherry blossom spots including Hiroshima, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya and Tokyo. Meg has spent her time in Hiroshima and has been sending some amazing photos making all of us in the Real Weddings office pink with envy!
Dreamtime
It’s a long weekend for us Victorians and we usually take the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of life; relax, rejuvenate and capture a little ‘me’ time. We all need it and more so in the lead up to the big day. It got me thinking of places I love to go to do exactly that. Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat is one special place – offering 3, 5 and 7 day retreats that give your mind, body and soul a little bit of nurturing. The environment, food, accommodation and spa are by far out of this world. Set on a high plateau of 500 acres in a hidden region of the Tallebudgera Valley, the car service from Gold Coast airport takes about 45 minutes. If you need a little de-stressing before the big day, or even after, consider making the trip. Believe me you come back feeling like you are walking on air! PS – check out the spa menu – the 33 room spa sanctuary is something to behold.
