Nili and Anthony Panebianco - Bali and Lombok

Reason for choosing this destination
We love the geography of Bali. Anthony loves volcanoes and I love jungles and beaches so Bali seemed like the perfect fit. Their world-renowned spas didn't hurt either! We also didn't want to go to the usual honeymoon destinations that most North American couples choose (Hawaii or the Caribbean). We wanted a tropical paradise that was far from our every day life here in the States.
Accommodation
We had read about all the amazing 5 star accommodation in Bali so we wanted to move around every few nights to check out a new glamorous hotel or exciting island (Lombok). These properties were such retreats and we still dream about returning almost every day!
- Tugu Lombok
- Tugu Bali
- Ubud Hanging Gardens
- Como Shambhala Estate
Favourite activity
We enjoyed hiking the dormant volcanoes, river rafting through the jungles, visiting all the beautiful temples around every corner in Bali and of course the daily spa treatments. We felt so spoiled at the end of it!
Best thing about your accommodation
The views! It was amazing to wake up in the middle of a jungle or right on a beach every morning. I loved the sounds: the birds, the insects at night, the crash of the waves, even the goats in the nearby hills!
Tips or advice for others
If you are visiting Bali try and make it to the island of Lombok; it is far less commercial and worth the little prop plane flight! The land is untouched and the beaches are amazing. We did the best snorkelling ever in the chain of islands off of Lombok called the Gilli islands. I also recommend trying the local food. We still crave the tasty fish. And try to get to know the locals. They have so much to offer you; they really enrich the quality of your trip and help you avoid the tourist traps!
