About Kirsten MacKelden, Founder 'Real Weddings'

During her time living and working in London and New York, Founding Editor Kirsten MacKelden, was inspired by the success of the Martha Stewart brand.

Upon her return to Australia, she combined her global perspective with an unwavering vision to create a magazine brand that would be known as the "Vogue of the bridal industry". Now, with a track record of ten years of creative and commercial success in print and online, the 'Real Weddings' brand has grown to become the benchmark in the wedding industry.

In both 2007 and 2008, 'Real Weddings' was named 'Magazine of the Year' at the Publisher's Australia Awards.

The 'Real Weddings' brand continues to lead and re-define the industry, with an enviable list of advertisers who are the 'who's who' of the wedding industry. Kirsten believes that the key to the brand's success is "building long-term relationships with people - our readers, our advertisers and the members of our team".
Kirsten was named the ‘Business Owner of the Year’ at the 2008 Telstra Business Women’s Award in Victoria, and earlier that same year, she was an Ernst & Young ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ finalist.

In 2006, BRW magazine named Indigo Media Group as one of ‘the fastest growing young companies in Australia’, where Kirsten was one of only 14 women on the BRW list.

Upon the launch of the new 'Real Weddings' website in 2010, 'Real Weddings' was named a Top 10 Honoree at the global 'Webby Awards', alongside GQ.com, RealSimple.com, BusinessWeek.com and MarthaStewart.com
Kirsten has appeared in all forms of media, and has previously hosted her own segments; ‘The Bride’s Guide’ on the national television program ‘9am with David and Kim’

She is also an award winning speaker. In 2006, Kirsten was the first Australian to be invited as a guest speaker at New York University's prestigious Publishing Institute. Fellow speakers included industry heavy-weights Steve Florio (CEO, Conde Nast), George Green (President, Hearst Magazines International), David Granger (Editor-in-Chief, Esquire) and Lynette Harrison (Publisher, In Style).

Generous, candid, effective and sincere, Kirsten possesses a dynamic combination of creativity and business skills and her experiences offer valuable lessons for anyone looking to create ‘real success’ and a well balanced life.
