Dimitra and Alexander's Wedding at Harbour Room

St Kilda, Vic

When Alexander's military commitments meant that he was separated from his long-time love, Dimitra, the pair decided that they simply couldn't bear being apart another minute. Within a few months, the adventurous couple had chosen their rings, held an intimate wedding ceremony with only 18 guests and made the big move from Melbourne to Canberra.

Six months after their official exchange of vows, the newlyweds eagerly hosted their celebratory reception, attended by many more family members and friends. "The lead up to our reception in January was a busy one. Alex was busy with work and I was more than happy to organise everything in the midst of moving states, finding work in Canberra and leaving my home town of Melbourne."

Moving quickly down her checklist, Dimitra was more than happy to turn her attentions to the sumptuous dessert table. The sweet-tooth bride-to-be made short work of sourcing quaint glass jars, cake stands, flowers, bottles, ribbons and macarons  - only to then hand make tarts, white chocolate hearts, chocolate dipped strawberries and the cake. According to Dimitra, "Most people thought I was crazy doing all the baking and cooking the week before the wedding but I just loved being involved and creating sweet little additions to the table."

Another unique touch that the couple fondly recalled from their day was the retro-style photo booth, "We were tossing up whether to hire the photo booth or not, as the budget was quite tight, in the end we decided to go ahead with it and boy are we glad we did. What a hit! There was a queue the entire night! Guests thoroughly enjoyed taking photographs and we have a book full of images and notes from the guests that we will enjoy forever."
