Excellent, not crowded, great weather but pity some animals hibernating, overall great excursion.

Excellent adventure! I really enjoyed the beautiful environment and scenery! Its a great experience to see the Australian animals. Its better to book the ticket in advance. The price is affordable. You can either bring your lunch or buy it from several cafes in there. It takes almost a full day to visit all parts of the zoo. Highly recommended in school holidays

Such a beautiful place.
Good to take the kids... the animals all seem happy and healthy.
Their enclosures are well kept and I love the diversity (reptiles, sea life, land animals).

There is so much to see and do here.
You can become a member, which gives you access to other zoos as well, which is really handy or you can get general admission which isn't expensive.

Best zoo I've ever been to and I've been to zoos from all across Europe and the wider world. I went on valentine's Day with my partner.

This zoo has a massive variety of animals and the enclosures are large and well maintained. We were in the zoo for 4.5 hours and only saw half the animals - luckily we purchased memberships and will be visiting again next week to see the rest.

The keepers are friendly and knowledgeable and always happy to answer questions. For us, the butterfly house was the highlight and was truly breathtaking.

Cannot recommend highly enough, especially if you really care about the welfare of animals and love being able to see a large variety.

Excellent zoo with thoughtful enclosures and carefully selected plants. It was great walking through the different sections of the park. Each section is spaced out enough so that it doesnt seem crowded. The animals generally have large open enclosures which is great to see. Nice reading about the conservation efforts of the zoo as well. Highly recommend.

Excellent experience with so much to explore within the zoo. It gets very busy quite quickly so be sure to arrive early. The zoo keepers were very informative and there was so much to see. Great for children with so many enclosures to see and a children's playground at one side of the zoo too. Definitely an experience to do when visiting Melbourne.

Youll need 3-4 hrs to get around the whole zoo.
Avoid weekends if you dont want to be inundated with too many children and strollers.

Bitter sweet visit .Melbourne Zoo is absolutely a beautiful Zoo to walk around! Would indeed recommend morning visits (10-2pm). Plenty of carpark area. Lots of picnic areas, cafes & seatings in-between enclosures. Friendly staff & volunteers. Reasonable cafe prices . Packed snacks from home but still found myself at the cafe gift shop was also reasonable with prices but then againI get a discount as a zoo member! Wear comfy shoes & enjoy Bitter sweet visitbut I cant see myself running in the jungle to see all these beautiful animals.
FYI - I think they only sell veganI got a weird look from cafe staff when I asked if the wrap was vegan .. She said, everything here is vegetarian. I didnt know its a ZOO! FML

There are too many animals, very beautiful, actually the 2 that I was most interested in seeing were the platypus because there are none outside of Australia, seriously, it is a very beautiful animal and the red panda, I was able to see both with great luck, the pandas They woke up after 4 if that information is useful to anyone, I saw the platypus at noon, curiously there is a very nice Japanese garden to make a stop and rest because the zoo is gigantic, finally there are 3 baby elephants up to the end of this month they move

Went to the zoo for the first time in years and absolutely loved it! My partner and I have been twice this year, first time it was raining so some of the animals werent out but it was still very enjoyable! It wasnt busy either which was great. Second time it was clear weather so it was a bit more busy but so great to see all the animals out and about enjoying the sun only downside is it was busier so we avoided things like the butterfly house.
We had a little snack whilst we were there and it was great to see that they have GF options!
Definitely check it out if you havent been in awhile or even need something todo!

The zoo is quite small compared to other ones I've been to, but very well maintained. It's very peaceful. It's a great escape from the busy city. It's very green, there's a little bamboo forest you'll get to see! All animals are very healthy and well maintained. Worth a visit

Get a membership and go daily! Take the family. It's been over 30 years since my first school trip. I have deep memories of being here. Coming back felt like a dream.

Great place, give yourself an extra 10 minutes though to arrive, as all the traffic from the freeway comes through here. Awesome to spend your weekend at. A lot to do here

WOW! Melbourne zoo was amazing - cannot recommend this enough for adults and kids alike. You will definitely need a whole day here - there is so much to see and do and I highly recommend seeing any of the zoo keeper demonstrations. Only thing that I didnt like were the prices at the cafe but if you bring your own food you can avoid it! Recommmend buying a membership as we have and cant wait to come back again!

Excellent place for kids for roaming around animals. The place is well maintained and they create natural habitat for animals , huge place , very nice. Me & my husband take zoo membership so we can visit soon.

But the staff were all friendly and it was nice to walk around and have fun.

We visited on a Monday so it wasn't crowded; although the drawback was that there were less food stalls open. Overall the zoo was extremely lovely and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The zoo itself was also gorgeous and clean. Favorites were the lemurs and butterfly exhibits!

Great place for a outing. The animals are well cared for and staff are very knowledgeable. I would recommend packing your own food though it's a little pricey.

Strikes a very good balance between conservation and entertainment.

The zoo is within walking distance of the CBD, and it's an enjoyable walk through the suburbs. It's also well served via the tram network. Very friendly staff and well laid out with a tremendous amount to see. It's a great day out for old and young, with plenty of toilets and places to eat and drink. I visited out of season and on a weekday (Monday, July), so it was busy, but far from crowded).

Modern zoos have a difficult tightrope to balance between entertainment and conservation and Melbourne's Zoo does this well. It's great to see animals being well cared for and mostly happy in their confinement, including a couple of baby elephants. The large aviaries are excellent to walk through, yet no so spacious that you end up having to play hunt-the-animal in the enclosures. No zoo will ever be perfect, but this one must be high up on the list of good ones, and ones doing their best to make a difference in terms of education and values in conservation.

The butterfly house is a must visit - tranquil, fragile beauty abounds.

I loved this zoo. The enclosures were big and full of enrichment for the animals. The baby elephants were adorable! The giraffes were another highlight. The paths through the enclosures weren't too packed even on a midday weekend. Some of the animals were sleeping when I went, the lions, snow leopards and red pandas.
If you love animals it's a must when you visit Melbourne.

We had a fantastic day visiting Melbourne Zoo. We are zoo members so love visiting when we can. It wasn't too busy given it was a nice winter day. It was great to see the baby elephants out and about. The pygmy hippo was also very active which our kids loved. We rode on the carousel, which is always a highlight (although $3.50 per child extra). We arrived at around midday and packed a picnic. Parking was easy at this time of day as plenty of people are leaving for lunch and naps.

Great experience, kids loved it. Everything comes off a main street so it's easy to navigate. Mornings are better so the cats are slightly more active. There is a clever orangutan who sits with a blanket on him. Cafes are decent.

Excellant place even though a fair few exhibits were empty, still plenty to see and do.

Fantastic zoo! Went here on a Tuesday and there was a fair bit of a crowd, but there was no wait to enter at all. Bought tickets on-site, staff were friendly and welcoming. Large variety of animals that look well cared for. Only issue was that some animals were moved to different enclosures, so we could not see them. However, we had to amazing opportunity to see the wombat while it was awake, so that made up for everything. Food at the cafes were filling and tasted great, would recommend for families and animal enthusiasts to come here

Beautifuly maintained with excellent staff who all of had smiles on there faces and were friendly (who wouldn't working there !) Food was as you'd expect but reasonably priced Only thing i will say is Take water bottles as the cost of a cup of water was a bit ordinary ! Other than that it's a fantastic day out even when your kids are adults and almost adults

Great place for kids. Always a pleasure to visit and see the animals. The zoo is maintained very well. Long weekends are usual very busy and it is better to arrive early to avoid long queues. The cafes offer limited variety of food and prices are moderate to high. Watch out for events and keeper's talks - these are generally very good.

At first, I thought AU$46 (adult) was a little bit pricy, but it was so worth it. I had a great time here to watch various animals and was very glad to see their good living environment compared to other zoos. They had 'Koala talk' at 11AM, and I was happy to be there.

All of the Victorian zoos are very well maintained, and the animals look healthy. I would suggest bringing your won food as each zoo is a bit expensive. Don't forget there are special school holiday activities, so keep an eye out for what they do during that time.

I definitely suggest looking up when the keeper talks are. They're included with your tickets and the knowledge the keepers have about the animals they care for is amazing!

Was in Melbourne as a student. I would have to say this was my first time seeing a proper zoo with lively animals.

Well layed out, good use of small area that the zoo is located on. all the animals had large habitats. Really enjoyed the tiger and the snow leopard. Staff were friendly and helpful and the keepers were happy to answer any questions that I had, thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

Have nothing bad to say, except few of the animals I wanted to see were either sleeping or away feeding. Which can't be helped by anyone.

Great place. You can find gorillas, giraffes, Kangaroos, Tiger, , Elephants. They are preserving a lot of soon to be extinct species. This is the 1st carbon neutral zoo in the entire world. Well maintained and observed regularly by volunteers, workers. They are taking good care of the animals inside. The gorilla rainforest was really very amazing then comes the kangaroo island. And yea the sea penguins were also nice.

Best Zoo and lots of Animals

Visited Melbourne Zoo from 11 am to 4 pm. Affordable parking at $2 for 5 hours. Explored the park twice, taking about 2.5 hours each roundperfect for a 10k step day! Loved baboons, elephants, and seals, though lions were napping. Friendly staff readily available for assistance. Ample parking, but bring your own food for dietary needs due to a small cafe with limited options during off-peak hours. Despite that, it's a fantastic tourist attraction. Solo visit, but planning to return with family. Thank you, Melbourne Zoo, for a delightful day! Highly recommended for a memorable outing with a good mix of wildlife and friendly atmosphere.

Love the experience of seeing animals here at the zoo - were very lucky with many close experiences on the day I went. When overcast and slightly drizzly, some animals will hide away though especially the primates.
Being at the zoo pretty early on after opening allowed me and friends to see almost every single animal (except Hutan the Sumatran tiger), and seeing animals being fed around lunch. Definitely do recommend the free keepers talk and set times - short informational talks!

Fantastic way to spend a day! Love coming here and checking out all the amazing displays.

Had a great time at this zoo! Purchased the ticket in advance on the day. Its amazing that you can put your e ticket on wallet app. Very easy to show them at the entrance without any queues.

There were numerous types of animals ranging from meerkats to lions. However, unfortunately when we went, a large portion of the zoo was closed due to maintenance. So it is important to go on their website prior to visiting to check for construction closures. There were also visible conservation efforts encouraged, as well as educational speakers to teach you about the animal behavior and ways to help these endangered species.

Pretty good, designated and well organized layout inside. Visitors can easily find the way to see all kinds of animals. Since it is semi-open space, you can feel the natural and primitive atmosphere by searching those animals. Too be honest, it is not easy to see lots of animals in close distance. Kids are so happy to take a look at those creatures. A good opportunity to teach and interact with kids in zoo. You can spend half day inside to explore what you want. However, sometimes some animals may hide, sleep or go anywhere so that they are not available when you visit.
For me and kids, it is a wonderful experience to visit this historical zoo. Easy to take Trams or Metro trains here. Enjoy.

This zoo is great. There's so many animals you probably won't see them all in one day. Most areas have a covered section so a bit of rain shouldn't stop you. I would encourage you to bring your own food though as the cafes are quite inconsistent in their operating hours plus they're mostly not located around places where you have animal views. Check out the free keeper talk times on their website before your visit for added value. Parents room are decent. Locker storage available - need credit card, between $5-$10 for the first 4 hours depending on size. Wheelchairs can be booked for free, need 48 hours notice. Parking is $2 for 5 hours, so it works out cheaper than public transport for most.

Nice place to spend time with family. Clean, sorted and with great collection of animals. Loads of signage for creating awareness regarding animals. Enough food and coffee outlets available. Seals, lion and orangutans are amazing. Must visit.

We had a beautiful time in Melbourne zoo. They have a lot of different type animals and I was surprised how big is the zoo. The best thing of the zoo is that you can watch the animals really close. Definitely a good plan for a family or any person to visit :)

Well kept, friendly staff, clean amenities

Melbourne zoo is a wonderful place to visit whether you are a tourist, a local, or a family. They have fun interactive experiences as well as active animals that interact with you. They have good facilities such as cafes, a Ben and Jerrys ice cream shop, good toilets, outdoor air conditioning, and more. Its is one of the best zoos I have been to, but if you want an even more interactive experience, you should go to Werribee open range zoo.

Melbourne Zoo is a great place to visit, whether you're 8 years old or 80 years old. There's just so many animals to see that it'll probably take you a good 3 or 4 hours to see everything. The Zoo is very well designed to ensure that you get to see everything.My favourite was the open exhibit for the Lemurs, they are just drop dead gorgeous even my teenage son had a great time at the Zoo. Easily accessible via Tram 58 from the city on William St.

Melbourne Zoo is a fantastic place to visit, full of amazing animals and fun things to do! You can easily get there from the city center by tram, and you can buy your tickets when you arrive. The zoo is not just about seeing animals it's also about learning how to protect them and their habitats. They have lots of places where you can fill up your water bottle for free, which is really handy. Overall, Melbourne Zoo is a great day out for anyone who loves animals and nature! Good size zoo.
It was hot when I visited so I didn't get to see red panda.
Glad I still got to see my favorite aussie wombats.
Got to see elephants, giraffes, hippo.

The tiger was walking around in a circle, I felt sad to see that. Because it usually means something is wrong when a cat paces like that.

It was a small area for the tiger as well. Smaller than lion's. I hope zookeepers can check up on the tiger to see what is going on.

Great zoo, best one I have visited. Good array of animals, lots of places to eat etc. I heard that the elephants are moving to another location this or next year. They were my favourite animals to see.

Am a zoo volunteer which is a fantastic opportunity to see these wonderful animals and learn so much about preserving the different endangered species.

Melbourne Zoo is the best Zoo experience I have had. The Zoo and its animal enclosures are beautifully curated by the loveliest keepers. we had the pleasure of talking to a keeper in the reptile exhibit who was in the process of setting up the planting for new animals. He was extremely lovely and you could tell how passionate he was about his work by how beautiful and lush each of the exhibits looked.

The Zoo itself is has something for all ages, with ample about of green trees that provide shade as you travel through, vibrant cafes, water refill stations and a splash pad for the kiddies to cool down.

We will definitely be back and recommending Melbourne Zoo to all our friends and family.

Worse experience ever!! Whole sections, 25 minutes walking for nothing! Signs saying no animals viewable. The zoo has deteriorated horibly.

Great urban Zoo. If you're realistic about the animals you expect to see in an urban zoo and Australia's climate then you won't be disappointed. Great landscaping and common areas throughout. Food/drinks are reasonably priced. Parking is accessible and reasonably priced ($2.20 for the max 5 hrs). Melb Zoo - I would like to see staff at sign-in and signage throughout asking parents to actively supervise children and not to; scream at the animals, chase/kick birds, stomp on or grab butterflies, tap perspex screens etc - for the sake of the animals and the experience of other visitors. Parents, please actively teach your children to be considerate of the animals and other visitors.

Wonderful urban zoo which is beautifully planned and landscaped.

ROAR AND SNORE - what a fantastic experience hubby and myself had. We purchased this as a Christmas present to each other. Our hosts/keepers were Clara and Robin and we were so lucky to have them looking after us. Nothing was too much trouble and they were informative and had a great personality the pair of them with lots of laughs. It was a privilege to be in the zoo when it was closed to see the animals without the crowds. The night tour and morning tour will be something we will remember for a long time to come. The camp site was comfortable and the food supplied was great. Highly recommend.

This zoo is amazing! So much to see, its huge. We didnt get to see it all as got too tired, so look forward to visiting again to see the rest. Highlights were lemur island and the whole monkey area, the butterfly enclosure with so many beautiful butterflies, and the elephants - they were in their cage area when we visited which was really interesting, we got to see the keepers checking them over and the elephants responding to their hand signals. Amazing stuff! Good value too as kids are free on the weekend.
We pre booked tickets so there was no line to get in which was great!

My sister and I attended Roar and Snore with Cathy and Ariel Thursday night , it honestly was the most magical experience ever .
They were so engaging and extremely knowledgeable with all the beautiful animals.
We had a night walk and we saw the lions up and about. Then the next morning we went into the elephant enclosure and placed treats in there from them to find.
We met the keepers and they were a wealth of knowledge it was just so special.

Only regret is that we didn't know beforehand that the Orangutan area closed at 4:30, so we only got a couple of minutes with my favourite creature there.

Best place to go with kids and family. Very accessible via tram,train, bus or car. Parents with pram or wheelchairs are very welcome. You will feel like in tropical island to forest. You can do dry picnic too. Its most go places in Melbourne.

On Thursday April 4th my friend Corinne & I visited the zoo. We were there for a good 4 1/2 hours. The day was splendid, so many families and children as well as tourists & just people enjoying themselves. The staff are all so informative & friendly, they all do a tremendous job looking after the animals as well as the general upkeep of the zoo. I have an annual pass & look forward to coming back during the year to explore more & experience the zoo in different seasons. We took public transport as parking can sometimes be a nightmare from what Ive been told unless you come early to get a parking spot. We are also interested in staying overnight for one of their overnight events. I highly recommend people visit.

It was a day filled with fun, food, adventure and entertainment. My kids loved to see the animals. Very clean and beautiful place in the heart of the Melbourne, not too far from the CBD. We had lots of fun. My kids learnt lots of things about the animals. Beautiful animal, well looked after by the zoo team members. A place worth going with family and friends. Definitely going again with kids.

We took the membership, and checking in was quite easy. Great n vast zoo, well maintained n clean. They have paid parking system which offers 5hrs parking for 2$.
