Ms Jane shares her experts advice on capturing the beautiful and emotional expressions on your wedding day.
How did you start your business?
I love photographing people and I can’t think of a better thing to do then spend my Saturdays with people who are happy. I love shoes. I love dresses. And I love emotion. Why wouldn’t I photograph weddings? I always photographed a few weddings as part of my commercial work, but after a few years, people loved my wedding images more than any of my other work so I established Ms. Jane.
What is your style?
Quiet and unobtrusive. I like to let the wedding unfold before me rather than direct events. I’m not really into posy images, although you always need a few, the best images come when you catch emotion as it happens.
What is your business and/or creative philosophy?
Every wedding is different. My job is to capture what is special about each couple. My style is more about them and less about me, that way their photos express who they are.
What sets you and your work apart?
This question is really hard to answer! I guess, before everything, I’m an artist. I see the potential for beautiful images in all sorts of places. I see emotion expressed in hands, I see love expressed in a look and I see beauty expressed in a detail. That’s me.
What is the process for a bride and groom to work with you?
We usually have a meeting in my studio to go through what the couple want for their wedding. We always do a walkthrough about one week prior to the day, regardless of location. This allows me to be more creative on the day and ensures that everything runs to schedule!
What advice would you have for engaged couples?
Be yourselves. Have the wedding you want. It’s all about being in love and getting married. And remember to have fun, it’s one of the best days of your lives together.
