Seven Mile Beach National Park, Biamanga National Park, and Murramarang National Park are a few of the parks located on the South Coast of New South Wales. Known for camping, outdoor activities, and wildlife, the parks contain beaches, lagoons, and rainforest. Adventurers also enjoy Merrica River nature trail, Illawarra Lookout walking track, and Spring Creek Wetlands.
More outdoor fun can be found at Belmore Basin, a seaside destination that is lined by surfing beaches and dotted with lighthouses and Norfolk Island pines. It is home to a large fishing fleet that attracts pelicans to the area. Outdoor enthusiasts also enjoy Batemans Bay beaches, found on the family-friendly Batemans Bay Snorkeling Trail which features reefs and native fish.
Several tourist attractions are located on the South Coast. Migrating whales are seen between May and November. The famous Kiama blowhole, close to a rock pool and working lighthouse, spouts seawater 20 metres into the air. Cruises to Montague Island to view a colony of fur seals and thousands of little penguins depart from Narooma.
Museums focus on life on the South Coast. Pioneer Village Museum displays replica pioneer-era buildings with period artifacts. Bega Pioneers’ Museum is housed in a former hotel, and the Nowra Museum is located in a former police station. Meroogal is a nineteenth century Carpenter Gothic-style house that offers guided tours.
The Wollongong Art Gallery is one of Australia's largest regional art museums while the Bega Valley Regional Gallery hosts touring exhibitions of national significance. Illawarra Performing Arts Centre features plays, concerts, and other performances while Milton Theatre is a historic theatre that presents concerts.
Tourist attractions on the South Coast include Jamberoo Action Park, a water theme park, and
Magic Mountain, a small theme park. Birdland Animal Park is home to wombats, koalas, and kangaroos, and Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre provides interactive displays. Several agencies offer cruises and boat tours. The South Coast provides many entertainment opportunities.
