Gabrielle Kemeny and Michael Howard

For Gaby and Mikey, wanting to truly capture the essence of their down-to-earth style yet host all the whimsy of a romantic day, choosing the right location for their wedding was paramount. According to Gaby, “We wanted a place that was close to our hearts and not a traditional venue. We were quickly drawn to the sailing club where my family has sailed from for years. With its own private beach and beautiful decks, it was perfect.”

The only drawback was that the clubroom was almost completely empty. To inject some personality into the space, PR specialist Gaby called on event stylists Georgeous to help out, "I asked them to travel from Melbourne to style the venue and they did the most amazing job of turning my ideas and dreams into reality."

With the gleaming emerald waters of Sydney Harbour and undulating sailboats as a superb backdrop, the couple decided to play on the rustic beauty of the charming building. With its inviting timber decks, chic red and white accents and striped awnings, the setting was enhanced with a host of rustic and natural touches that included custom-made floor cushions for the deck, "I'm just so disappointed I didn't actually get the chance to lie across those amazing floor cushions," laughed Gaby.

Finer Details

Hidden away down a narrow, winding road with its own private beach and beautiful decks, the sailing club was the perfect venue for Gaby and Mikey's wedding. Picking up on the red and white tones of the striped awnings, deck chairs were decorated with red and white cushions whilst flag bunting provided whimsical accents. Trestle tables set with informal bench seats and stools displayed massed arrangements of red and white blooms of hyacinths, roses, daisies and tulips in mismatched glass jars, wooden boxes and tea lights.

Following the rustic and natural theme, simple white wooden boxes stacked at the end of the aisle were decorated with red and white flowers in glass jars.

Metallic gold and silver balloons in the couple's initials and playful love message signs added effortless and chic style to the celebrations.

Vintage cutlery was tied with red and white ribbon whilst Gaby and Mikey's mothers handmade the table napkins which guests took home as keepsakes. "I love ‘lovehearts' so the white napkins had a red heart sewn in the middle. They were absolutely beautiful and took a great deal of effort from both our families - but were well worth it in the end!".

"Whilst I was getting ready in the morning, one of Mikey's friends arrived with a special delivery for me from Mikey - a beautiful pair of earrings that I had been dreaming about for a long time and a really touching card. It was such an amazing surprise!"
