A splash of colour

Like many of you, we’ve been loving the Spring/Summer 2010 Haute Couture collections – so many gorgeous gowns! Our Creative Director Nicole particularly loved the Elie Saab collection, for its beautiful use of colour…

We get so excited about the thought of brides in colour, although we don’t see it very often!

In Issue 9, Real Bride Hayley wore a Joanne Panzarino made from Valentino silk featuring a striking floral print and soft pleats. Teamed with a wrist corsage, a fascinator featuring orange silk and feathers, and shoes covered in the same orange fabric, Hayley’s outfit was a perfect expression of her personality and taste.

Style inspiration: Vintage Glamour Girls Part 2

In the lead up to our gorgeous Real Weddings Style issue, which includes a special vintage glamour feature, we’ve been sharing our love of all things vintage with you. Last week we featured the glamour of Marilyn, this week we wanted to share the elegance and style of two of our other favourite leading ladies, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, and the accessory they championed – gloves.

Audrey is remembered for wearing gorgeous gowns complete with gloves in almost all of her movies, the most iconic being the black gloves she wore with a shoulderless black gown in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. But she also wore long gloves with stunning white gowns to elegant balls in the movies Sabrina and My Fair Lady, and wrist-length gloves while modelling a chic tea length gown in Funny Face.

Grace Kelly, who later became Princess Grace Rainer of Monaco, epitomised demure elegance with these gloves, worn at the 1954 Academy Awards where she won the Oscar for Best Actress.

As we love this classic look so much, you can imagine how thrilled we are to see that gloves are making a comeback! Designer Mariana Hardwick featured ellbow-length gloves in her recent Bride Nouveau collection, showcased at this year’s L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Shorter lace finger-less gloves were also included in the collection, as seen below with the Athena gown.

Our Real Bride Annabel, wore elegant elbow-length gloves at her marriage to Rohan in 2004. Her bridesmaids wore divine wrist-length lace gloves with a ruffled edge. In the picture below, one of Annabel’s bridesmaids helps her put on her gloves in a beautiful moment before the ceremony.

There are pages of vintage glamour inspiration and other fabulous style ideas in our next edition of Real Weddings Style, which is now less than a month away!
