Magnificent place to discover the beautiful mansion and huge garden surrounding.

It was owned by a private English man back then in 1800s, now it is belonged to the National Trust.

Very antique design with spectacular interior deco. The garden is huge too with big lake and many picnic spots.

On the day that we went, they also have maker's market with food and hand-made goods too.

Can easily spend a day here. Good to bring your family for a day out. Suitable for any ages.

What a beautiful house and gardens.

This felt like walking on to the set of The Great Gatsby! Such expansive and well designed gardens and the house sat proudly overlooking the estate.

We were there for a performance which was fantastic and used the grounds so well.

We didn't go in to the house but we'd definitely be back to explore again at a later date.

Getting there was a breeze with a very quick train from Richmond station and then a really interesting walk down the main shopping village.

I shot another happy wedding here, and enjoyed the entire event :) So easy to get great footage eeeeverywhere we shot. The Big front entry, the front lawn, the pool, the fernery and the roses and everything.
The staff treated us very kindly too. Because they were so helpful, we were able to get very nice footage of the couple celebrating inside the mansion.
I hadn't been here for about a year, and I was happy to return again :)

Surprisingly beautiful gardens within the SE suburbs close to city

Beautiful historic mansion and an excellent tour guide. The 1890s kitchen rooms downstairs were fascinating in their original condition. The gorgeous gardens were an added adventure. Well worth the time to go see.

This is a private estate, which is open every day, tickets are 15 Australian dollars, and there is a free tour. Although it has changed hands several times, the exterior remains intact, and the interior has been repaired and updated. The British style is elegant and exquisite. No matter the interior or the park, it shows the noble taste of the owner. There are beautiful scenery everywhere. It is very suitable for couples to visit and take pictures to warm up emotions. Or a good place for a family to bask in the sun and children to run and jump around.

Absolutely beautiful reminisce of the luxury "Victorian past of Victoria", huge parkland estate,maintained in an impeccable condition and consisting of several zones - mountain, lakeside, lawn, forest, garden... Such a pleasure to spend few hours walking around!

What a wonderful winter escape birthday I enjoyed at Ripponlea High Tea in June 23. Isaac and Danni were so attentative to our dietary and drinks needs. The food was the freshest and very beautifully presented with flower trimmings and decadent glassware. The scones freshly baked; exquisite and so soft and warm, melting in your mouth. The outdoor pool patio was yesteryear splendour and the market was an added bonus! That old huge rooted tree was amazing. We loved every minute of it!

Although Im local, finally visited for the first time today. The gardens are very pretty although some of the pathways were slightly flooded from all the heavy rain we just had. Was still a pleasant experience with our 2.5 YO daughter.

Wonderful place

Fabulous garden, some trees dating back to the mid 1800s. Lots of space to roam, take a picnic, there is a lovely lake with a waterfall, boathouse and rotunda overlooking the garden. When the lilies bloom it would be very Monet-ish.
I took the mansion tour which was fun and the guide was very informative. Kitchens below were worth seeing.

Such a hidden gem of a place. Lovely helpful staff. Brilliantly kept gardens full of all sorts of secrets and memories of the the estates history. If you a plant lover or take an interest in the past a visit is a must!

It was a joy to visit the Rippon Lea estate and take a tour of the house and then one of the gardens.

The gardens are magnificent and the detail contained within the tour was wonderful. Our guides were very good and knowledgeable.

Online booking would be beneficial. If we had turned up and then found the tours full, it would have been very disappointing. All the other National Trust properties take online bookings!

What a place to visit for relaxing experience. Clean toilets, wheel chair entry, cafe everything available. The mantion is stuning! We can wonder everywhere freely. But no places to put rubbish. Better we take our own rubbish bags to bring our rubbish back home. There are plenty of space for children to run around. Shouldn't miss this place if you are a nature lover.

A small and beautifully kept garden which is a photographer's dream, so much more pretty and aesthetic than Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens. All the more impressive as it used to be privately owned, now in the care of the National Trust of Australia.

We came to see the Tinker Bell and Dream Fairies. Very nice interactive experience. I was concern of parking but there are lots of parking locally. The park is well maintained, plenty of space and shade. Bring a picnic rug, perfect for picnic and young children to run around on the lawn. I would like to visit again.

Lucky to visit later in the day on a Monday where I was treated to my own tour with Jane who was extremely knowledgeable of the finer details of the mansion and the different stages of renovations throughout the years. Beautifully presented property! of note the Dahlia's in bloom, the shade house and the lake - just incredible!

Some friends and I attended Rippon Lea Estate for the Annual Regency Picnic 2024. Safe to say we were all stunned by how beautiful the manor and it's gardens were.

Really affordable entry at $15.00 per person. Tours inside the main residence can be purchased for an additional fee.

Central location, somewhat close to public transport. (Within walking distance) Parking is only available in side streets and I believe is limited to 2 hours on weekdays.

Some areas of the residence and grounds are not accessible friendly due to steep hills/steps. That being said, majority of the grounds are quite friendly for those who rely on mobility devices.

A simply gorgeous spot to spend an afternoon with friends or family for a wander and little picnic. Would reccomend and will attend again!

I'd recommend that if you go to this place for the first time, you should probably go early to take a walk and have a look at everything. Remember to keep your map with you. There is a beautiful back garden and a small lake; it's worth the visit for just $15. The house is very well-kept, as there is no damp smell or any bad smell. The house is truly amazing; it feels like you are in a movie. The house looks better outside than in the photo.

Historic Rippon Lea Mansion is a must visit if visiting Melbourne. Beautifully preserved and maintained by the National Trust. You can pay to walk around the beautiful grounds and gardens, but the guided tour of the house is a must. You are taken through many rooms, and learn the history of the house and its various families. Guides are very knowledgeable. Only downside was no decent cafe on site (though you can get a coffee but only a biscuit on offer for food). Easily accessible by train from Flinders St station to Ripponlea Station then a 5 min walk.

Always amazing and worth a visit. Spring is especially beautiful with everything so lush and vibrant.

$15 weekday entry fee gives you access to acres of beautiful gardens, a small ornamental lake, a majestic fernery, huge trees and perfect lawns in the grounds of this National Trust historic home. It it is a wonderful oasis in the middle of busy and densely populated Elsternwick.

We had a glorious spring day and took a mid-week picnic lunch to enjoy the serenity with a family member in a wheelchair. The ticket entry includes a map identifying the most wheelchair friendly paths. While the grounds of the estate are fairly flat some of the wheelchair friendly paths were a bit tricky to navigate as there was some unevenness, tree routes and loose gravel so some wheelchair uses may not be able to visit everywhere.

There were only a small handful of other visitors so it almost felt like we were the lords of the manor for the day. Rippon Lea Estate is one of Melbourne's best kept secrets in the inner city and if I lived nearby I would visit everyday!

I had an amazing time touring the mansion at Ripponlea Estate! The details are absolutely stunning and unlike anything youll find elsewhere. I cant wait to return and spend more time exploring the gardens!

A fantastic property to visit. The house is magnificent, and the gardens are lovely. The grounds are great to explore, and you can even bring your own picnic and eat within the grounds. The volunteers are friendly and informative. I would recommend anyone to go and admire the architecture and enjoy the gardens. It is also easy to get to by public transport, either catching the train or tram.

Wow- I recently conducted and officiated a beautiful wedding for Simon and Trinity at Ripponlea. So many photo ops and lovely helpful staff made everything really special.

This historic home is exceptional! A guided tour of the home is well worth the time. The tour guides tell the story of all the owners, starting with Frederick Sargood in 1868, as you wander the house, enjoying the drawing riom, dining room, sitting room, breakfast room, bedrooms, bathrooms, night nursery, night nurse's room, beautiful staircase, and gorgeous main entrance. You can wander the gardens, complete with lake and grotto, fernery, windmill, stables, and take yourself on a self-guided tour of the original basement kitchen complex.

Took my grandchildren to the Tinkerbell show. It was my first time at Ripponlea and I was so impressed by its beauty. Will definitely go back next time Im in Melbourne.

A very interesting house and beautiful garden. Well worth visiting. Our guide (Tom, I think?) gave us plenty of time to look at each room and was a mine of information with regard to the history of the house and its previous owners. We hadn't realised that there wasn't a cafe on site so lunch was an ice-cream and cookie from the small shop at the entrance. We did see a few visitors with picnics. Nevertheless, we had a really lovely day at Rippon Lea and would definitely recommend.

The tour of the house was great. Small group of 11. The guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We got to see most of the rooms in the house. Beautiful place, very well preserved. I wish I had more times to walk around the grounds as they are expansive and pretty.

Beautiful and cheap

I had to take advantage of the beautiful afternoon yesterday with Ripponlea Estate just five minutes from my door. From the welcoming ticket seller to the knowledgeable guides, every staff member made the visit special. In the old kitchen, vintage utensils brought back waves of nostalgia - memories of my grandmother's hands, then my mother's, then mine. The gardens and lake were a delight, and the passionate gardeners eager to share their knowledge. Inside, I was so lucky to have a personal guide with a lovely and very knowledgeable guide. A perfect reminder of the treasures right on my doorstep. Thank you

We were in a small group of 6 ensuring an intimate experience. Beautiful estate and generally well preserved. I walked away with a deep appreciation of how much effort is involved in the upkeep of such estates managed by the Trust. Well done!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the beautiful garden and mansion; the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing and peaceful. Several families were also enjoying picnics. This venue has all the options that can be mixed and matched to suit your particular needs. The backdrop and scenery are absolutely beautiful and there is no major hidden fees like many other venues charge. Amy always made sure I was comfortable and happy when I went to see the venue, she was so hospitable, provided me and my mum refreshing drinks on a hot day, champagne at my first visit and thats just the beginning! I highly recommend this place for your next function or wedding.. Very professional and the very best service is what youll get!

Very beautiful estate and we had lovely tour guides. The garden is absolutely refreshing to walk through.

The mansion is very beautiful and well preserved. The tour was just a small group of 10-15 people so its not overcrowded. The tour guide who is a local is very informative of the estate and its surroundings history. You can also explore the garden and grounds after the tour. The garden tour was $15pp and for an additional $10pp, you get to have a guided tour inside the mansion as well.

Came for the tour of the Grand mansion. It was a little drawn out and would have been nice if the there was a seat to sit on along the way. I was feeling weary and needed to take the weight off my legs. The lady doing the tour was very informative and it was very interesting. I loved the way they have conserved and protected this historical propriety. If you like the yesteryear and history of such a place. This is definitely worth a visit.

On a nice weekend, I made an appointment with a friend to go here. We bought tickets and a one-hour explanation. We could walk into the building and see the restored scenes inside the house. The whole manor was well maintained, as if we had returned to more than a hundred years ago. We could imagine the daily life of the homeowner inside. It is worth seeing. The garden is also beautiful. Five-star recommendation~

Very well manicured gardens of this famous estate on several acres of blue chip land. Highly ornate engineered and designed home with lots intricate features which makes it much more grandeur than standard homes.

Lovely gardens with an eye catching lake and waterfall. Unique fern house. We visited during the makers market on the lawns which was a real treat. Would be lovely to be able to take well behaved dogs in the grounds.

The gardens are so beautiful at any time of year. We always visit Rippon Lea when we come to Melbourne.

The staff are friendly, and you can see many different plants and well-preserved old buildings.

Well presented Victorian mansion. Our tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. The mansion's architecture and rooms are immaculate. Lovely walk around the ponds and waterfall and gardens with open lawn areas. Visited in November 2025.

Great old place with fantastic gardens to explore

This was the highlight of my trip to Melbourne! Beautiful house and grounds! The tour of the house gave lots of interesting information and history about the place. It was fun to explore the grounds, particularly around the lake, which was beautiful.

Also, I wanted to give a shoutout to the woman who works at the gatehouse/gift shop: she was so welcoming and helpful! As someone very unfamiliar with the area went here for the Not Without Friends, Music event ran by untitled group and had an absolutely wonderful experience at this beautiful building, So good to see the broader community coming together and socially networking and respecting such a beautiful historic place. Would definitely return to this estate after such a wonderful day, Would definitely recommend everyone to pay a visit here.

A beautiful and peaceful place to visit in Melbourne. The historic mansion and stunning gardens are very well maintained, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing walk and photography. The estate offers a fascinating glimpse into Melbournes history, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Whether youre interested in history, architecture, or simply enjoying nature, Rippon Lea Estate is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!

Very nice garden... Pick I nice day to go

Spent the day at Rippon Lea Estate and its easy to see why its one of Melbournes most beautiful historic properties. The gardens are absolutely stunning, with plenty of peaceful spots to wander, relax and take in the atmosphere. The mansion itself is full of character and history, and the whole estate has a calm, elegant feel that makes it a great escape from the busy city pace.
The grounds were well maintained, staff were friendly and welcoming, and there was always something interesting to discover around every corner. Whether youre there for an event, a picnic, a walk through the gardens or just a relaxing afternoon, its a fantastic place to spend a few hours.
A real hidden gem in Melbourne and definitely worth visiting for anyone who enjoys history, architecture and beautiful gardens

We enjoyed the tour of the mansion which was entertaining with our guide, Sarah. Then had a nice walk around the garden. Quite a few couples having picnics being Valentine's Day.

Makers market was great. Hope to see more stall holders next time. There were lots of duplicate stalls (probably 4x pottery, 4+ jewellery, etc)
