It was Tala and Johnny's third anniversary. They hired a yacht for the occasion, and as they sailed under the Sydney harbour bridge at sunset, Johnny romantically popped the question.
Come October, friends and family gathered by the pool with its St Tropez feel at the glamorous Ivy in Sydney to watch the couple exchange vows. The pair, who were introduced by a mutual friend and who now live in New York, had already tied the knot in Las Vegas six months before but wanted to have a proper wedding back in their hometown.
The overall colour scheme for the wedding was simple and chic – sunny orange and white – used for the cute potted orange geraniums by the pool, the stunning floral and fruit centrepieces floating on the retro pool and as centrepieces on the tables.
The couple thought the wedding was special enough without having to theme it up, while the location of the Ivy room with its Hollywood glamour appeal needed little additional decoration.
As the couple live overseas they relied heavily on a wedding planner, the incredible team at the Ivy and family and friends to help bring it all together. “We were so lucky to have such great people on the case,” Tala said.
They arrived in Sydney three weeks before their October wedding for a whirlwind, last minute rush of organising the flowers, doing food tastings and having final dress fittings. “It was fun but a complete blur,” Tala said.
Music played a big part in the couple’s wedding given Johnny is a composer. Friends Emma and Elliot performed a beautiful version of ‘Head Over Heels’ as they sang the pair down the aisle. The entire wedding was involved in dancing the hora at the start of the reception, which was followed by a band, and a DJ, with plenty more dancing as the night went on.
Perhaps one of the biggest highlights of the night was when the MC introduced an Elvis Presley tribute artiste. To everyone’s delight ‘Elvis’ came in dancing to ‘Viva Las Vegas’, which soon had everyone up and grooving on the cool black and white tiled dance floor. And an hour before things wrapped up, the waiters stopped serving wine and brought out lychee martinis for the guests, which also proved a big hit.
