Tanya McKay was in the UK on a working visa when she met Ryon Basu in a London bar. “We hit it off and my intended six-month stay turned into seven years,” she said.

While the couple later settled in Australia, Ryon proposed on a London balcony during a brief visit home, and they celebrated with family and friends before returning to Melbourne to plan an intimate wedding.

Tanya said the spectacular venue Eureka 89, with its 360-degree views of the city, ticked all the boxes. “It was great to get married with views of Melbourne after getting engaged with views of London. We really wanted to treat our guests and ensure they had as good a time as we did. The venue was stunning, the food was amazing, and we could have both the ceremony and reception inside, so we didn’t need to worry about the weather.”

Tanya’s wedding dress designer also turned out to be a ‘one-stop-shop’, saving her lots of time and stress in the lead-up to the big day.

Eureka staff recommended a great list of suppliers, including florist Kate Hill, who took inspiration from Ryon’s Indian heritage to create vibrant red, orange, yellow and purple arrangements designed to brighten up the winter’s day.

“She did a fantastic job on the bouquets, table decorations and the beautiful installation that formed a backdrop to the ceremony and later hung above our bridal table,” Tanya said.

The couple followed a Hindu wedding tradition and exchanged flower garlands presented by their mothers during the ceremony to signify the unification of hearts and families.

“The whole day had a lighthearted feel which was in keeping with our relationship and personalities,” Tanya said. “The overall experience was unforgettable and makes us thankful for the wonderful family and friends that we have.”

A UK honeymoon was always on the cards for the newlyweds especially as close friends had scheduled their nuptials for the following month in London.

“This allowed us to enjoy further celebrations with friends and family that couldn’t be in Melbourne,” Tanya said.
